Harris Family Furniture is a fourth generation company founded in 1965. It all began in 1961 in Bristol, New Hampshire when Russell Harris and his brother Henry ran Harris Brothers. Then in 1965, Russell opened what is now known as Harris Family Furniture on Main Street in Plymouth, and his four oldest children, Bill, Bob, Jack, and Richard joined him in the business. In 1972, as Bill and Bob were graduating from college, Harris Family Furniture opened its second location in a handsome Victorian on Union Avenue in Laconia. The boys took on the new store and brought their grandfather Henry out of retirement to work as their accounting manager (he had begun his career as a furniture representative just after World War I). As the family grew larger, so did the need for additional expansion. The Plymouth Store moved out to Tenney Mountain Highway into a large antique colonial; and in 1985 Bill opened the third store in Chichester in a handsome old farmhouse complex. Continuing in the family tradition, Russell, Jr. joined the company in 1993 and Bill’s son Will came on board in 2003. The first member of the third generation Richard Harris retired in 2007.

Throughout its history, Harris Furniture has maintained its reputation for excellence, and, in 2007, received the Not Your Typical Business Award from the New Hampshire Business Review and Citizens’ Bank. Today, in a world of big box stores, we continue to stand out in the industry. All three of our stores operate from their original historic buildings, which allow us to display our furniture in unique room-based settings. Our huge selection of products come from many of the very best manufacturers – Lazboy, Clayton Marcus, Broyhill, Stressless, and Keystone, to name just a few; and we are also the oldest and largest mattress retailer in New Hampshire, now carrying Simmons Beautyrest, King Koil, and Tempurpedic. As a result of our combination of products, and excellent customer service, many families have continued to purchase from us for generations.
